Why are Iphones so expensive?

I have heard that they are like 200 bucks but on the online store it says like 900 bucks for an iphone 6! WTF?

$200 is with a 2year contract

The $200 price is for 1 on a 2 year contract
The $900 (more likely $850 (since it is the most expensive iPhone 6 model) is unlocked. No contract.

Also the $200 one is a 16GB vs the $850 which is the 128GB model.

They have got a name of their company and iPhones are always known for its expensive nature

Because the iPhone is a high quality premium smartphone, the same reason the don't sell BMWs and Mercedes cars for $2,000, high tech and quality isn't cheap.

when you sign a Two year contract you get a huge discount since you promise to pay your phone bill for 24 months. Welcome to the real world, Cheers.

If you read newest iphone for $200 or less that is a down payment and the rest added to your bill or an artificial price with a higher monthly bill and a two year commitment.
The cellphone companies need to pay their engineers and the people who make product announcements seem like news stories.

  • Why iphones are so expensive? They claim to have quality materials but one drop its all over with it. Anyway what justify the price. Some smart phones can perform the same for a less price (with similar features). Is it because an iphone is popular? The phone doesn't even have a radio FM, and has battery issues most of the time. I just don't get it.
  • Why everybody think iPhones are expensive? I mean i hate iphone yes they are expensive for the price you pay for what you get… but they are at the same price with many android phones like xperia z, galaxy s4, note 2, htc one, htc butterfly
  • Why are used iPhones so expensive? What does unlocked mean? I just sold my 2 year old iphone 4 for $240 on eBay. Why are they selling so high? What do they do with them?
  • Why are iPhones so much more expensive in england than america? I was just browsing around on the Apple site, and I was having a look at the iPhone 5 when I realised that I was on Apple USA site not the UK, and switched to the UK site. The iPhone 5 on the US site said from $199 but when I went on the UK site it said from £529! That is like $788 dollars! Why the hell is the iPhone 5 (and basically any iPhone model/apple product) so much more expensive in the UK? 199 dollars and 788 dollars is a huge difference.
