Why does the iphone 4 lock button break?

There on a flex cable that has a metal disk with a nipple glued on top of the metal disk and over time the nipple breaks off the metal pad cause it to feel like its jammed I see it everyday. The most I've seen it on is people who have/had a case with rubber over there phone like the otter box and the rubber doesn't let the button extract like it is supposed to. Yes! The Otrerbox commuter case has broken my lock button after just 4 days. Now it does not even work with the case off the phone. Otterbox said they are not responsible for the broken lock button.

Besides the buttons my iPhone is in perfect condition. My phone carrier is straight talk, from Walmart. They don't offer insurance or a warranty or anything like that. So I was wondering if it was possible to replace these buttons?
