Will a wood burning tool work on a leather iPhone case?

I will be getting the new iPhone when it comes out and I love the new leather case Apple has designed for it, however it's a little plain and as an artist I see opportunity there. So I scoured the internet for my options and everywhere keeps bringing me back to this wood burning tool. I've never used one before and can't imagine I will have trouble adapting to it. My question is really whether this is my best option, if there's a better solution, or if this is just an all around bad idea and I should look elsewhere if I want to personalize a case.

I don't want to give you bad advice, but think about it:
Wood burning is where you use a heated tool to engrave or mark, by burning the surface to which you want to create something.
What could be different about leather?

If you watch the temperature, and use a fine enough point, or at least the appropriate one for the pattern or art that you want to create, I can't see why a wood burning tool/knife wouldn't work.
