Will the IPL ever crack the global market?

Will it crack the international market or will it's popularity be limited to India, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka? Looking at viewing figures, over 200,000 people watched the IPL's opening game last year in the UK, the ashes received 16 million on mobile devices alone - iPad, iPhone etc. It's fair to say it's not popular in the UK.

I believe it's not shown at all in Australia due to a financial dispute, even though the 4 year contract is only worth £6m, it's almost as if they trying to flog the rights on the cheap to buy popularity.

I tried looking for the viewing figures in the USA, China, Germany & Brazil but couldn't find any.

I understand viewing figure in general are falling, can they turn this around & capture the global market?

May be, but not sure of that.

As long as IPL is generating money and are able to attract elite players from around d world they wouldn't lose sleep over d technicalities and overall viewership stats…

Yes., Definitely

How's the Friends Life T20 league going?

International cricket will always attract people in cricket… If people want to make Franchise Cricket huge they may have to squeeze in matches in between international tournaments… I'm personally happy that people are not over indulged in T20 cricket… Which will eventually save traditional Cricket…

The new ICC changes can effect IPL, but not so big.

I believe Foxtel will show it in Australia this year on pay TV. It has not been shown on commercial TV since series 2.
Such is its popularity in Australia.
We don't like second rate cricket, with third rate umpires, and corruption.

India itself is the biggest market to make profit. Other countries are just for any bonus.

,

I think if they want it to go global they should hold the tournament in other countries like they did in SA which was very successful, countries like USA, China, UK., Australia Brazil.

IPL is watched by over 5 billion people world wide and generate more then the GDP of Australia in income.

I think it will not get lessened to some country.

I think they should extend it for getting some extra profit.

@Red Dog, third grade umpires? Umpires from ICC's elite panel including those of Australia umpire the IPL. Would you stop watching test matches umpired by them? After all, they're third grades.

Such a small attendance at the last match of county cricket, even I could memorize the names of all of them and I'm not any kind of memory champion.

  • Why are Iphones so expensive than other smartphones in the market? Iphones are manufactured in China… So the manufacturing cost should be very low. Of couse, they have done a lot of R&D work… But so have other smartphone companies like Samsung, HTC etc While you can get other smartphones in the market with same features as in Iphones (or even more features than in Iphone), why are Iphones so overpriced?
