Wireless hard drive assistance?
I want to set up a wireless hard drive so that I'm able to access its contents from my phone, I've searched and searched but can't find my exact needs.
What I need help with is setting it up, I have a 2TB hard drive and an internet router with wireless capabilities and a USB port, what I don't have is an Internet connection, if one is needed to update the router software, or for initial set up that's ok, but it will be primarily run well and truly off line.
I need to be able to access it from my IPhone (Jailbroken) and preferably also my Xbox one and laptop.
My idea for how it would work is this:
hard drive---router---wireless extender---device/s
|
Xbox one/laptop
Please let me know if there's anything wrong with this, and if so how I can fix it.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Wireless is good only for rock throw distances, an internet connection will be needed.
Does the router support "sharing" from the USB port? Some can share a drive, some use the port for a network connect, some use it for maintenance. The USB port can be for anything.
If it does share, you need to see which of your boxes supports HOW it shares. It most likely be windows CIFS.
If you the USB port doesn't share, you are back to square one. You can buy a little NAS box or use an old PC.
- What place can recover hard drive data from a dead iPhone 4? My phones battery circuitry short circuited from water damage. So my iPhone can't charge and is completely out of battery. Is there any place that can take out the hard drive and recover the data (music, contacts, pictures) and put it on my current phone?
- What is the difference in the hard drive and the memory of a computer? I'm planning on buying the new iMac as my first computer in a couple months. I've never understood how the two are different. Like on an iPhone it just has memory and no hard drive. Also as part of my initial question in your explanation, if I download adobe photoshop then does it go to the hard drive or the memory? What about my iTunes music downloads and pictures saved to the computer?
- Using my iPhone 5 as a USB stick/external hard drive? I need to move some stuff from my laptop (a Mac) onto my girlfriends laptop (a PC).Is there an app you can download or some technique?
- Portable hard drive with audio out? I'm looking for something that will help me sound check my studio mixes in the car. I want to plug an mp3 player or hard drive into my computer, bounce a logic or protools mix straight out onto the hard drive, then take it in my car and plug it into my 1/8" input on my radio in my car. I can do it with an ipod or iphone but i have to put the file into itunes and sync every time, which takes time, and I don't want to clutter up my phone/ipod with junk rough cuts of songs.
