Am I in the wrong on this one?

Last year I saved up my money to purchase an iPhone for myself and used it until it was pretty banged up. Yesterday I bought a new Samsung note 3. Today my mom is telling me I don't appreciate the things I have. I just don't understand the hostility and how I'm the one getting in trouble when I decided to treat myself to something nice. Do you think what I did was wrong?

No. You needed and wanted a phone so you got one. If its your own money then I don't see the problem. Your mam might be thinking about Christmas. She might think your spending money on yourself instead of others. Just make sure she knows you paid for it yourself and that it wasn't all of your money. And that you bought Christmas presents too.

I don't think it's you treating yourself to something nice that's the issue, I think she's concerned that you don't appear to take care of your belongings. An iPhone should last for more than just a year unless you're being completely reckless with it. I've had mine for three years, and the exterior damage on it is minimal.

That said, I don't think buying yourself a new phone was a wrong thing to do. It's your money and it's your decision how to spend it.

I think she's trying to get through to you to stop wasting your money. These phones are expensive. You're obviously mistreating it if you needed a new one after just a year.

No you are right. She probably feels like she is out of the loop and wants to be more intune with new technology. I bet she feels like times are changing fast.
