Annoying ringing coming from computer speakers?

Before someone tells me to Google, this, believe me, I have tried. For some reason I can't find any info on this issue.

Anyways, I'm getting horrible feedback from my new speakers. They are just some basic AUX speakers. When I plug them into my phone, they are fine. But when I plug them into any of the ports on my computer, they play this horrible, shrill, high pitched ringing noise.

I have figured out that when I press the end of the AUX cable up to any port on my computer (whether it be USB, sata, whatever), it plays the noise. I think it has something to do with the fact that there's more power coming from the computer than there's from my phone.

So is there any way I can fix this? It is really annoying, and I would rather not return the speakers if that is in any way possible. Thanks.

PS: I think that if there's a way to make the AUX connection only take information instead of taking information and also powering the port, that would work. But I'm not sure. I'm also not sure why it would work on my iPhone but not my computer.

Added (1). Like I said, the speakers make the exact same when pressed up against any powered port on the computer. Meaning the issue isn't with having the speakers plugged in, it's just having them pressed against the port. Or any port for that matter.

But yeah, I tried that and it didn't work. I disabled all my input devices, even the digital one that doesn't actually do anything (because nothing is plugged into it). But thanks.

I'm guessing you have the microphone on and the feedback happens due to the speakers providing a feedback loop.

Try muting the microphone and then connect the speakers. If the feedback is gone you'll have your answer.

Try a completely different brand and model of speakers
(possibly borrowed from someone you know).

If they do the same thing, the konfuzer is the source of the problem.

If not, the first set of speakers must be the cause.

  • Why isn't my iPhone ringing? I just got an iPad mini and I synced my iMessages onto it. Well now when I get a txt my iPad rings instead of my phone. But when my phone gets a txt from a non apple phone and I get a normal txt message instead of an iMessage, neither my iPad or my iPhone rings.

  • Why is the sound from my iPhone not coming from speakers? My iPhone 4s was working but then the sound does not come from the speakers at the bottom. They come from the speakers beside the camera ( where you put your ears to talk on the phone )
