Is it a padlock with an arrow around it? That's orientation lock, it locks the phone into portrait mode so that when you turn your phone sideways in an app, it doesn't rotate the screen. To enable/disable it, simply slide up from the bottom of your screen to open Control Centre, then just tap the lock icon.
Go into SETTINGS snowflake, and UNLOCK IT.
