Are any webcams compatible with Windows 8?

I have just purchased the Microsoft VX-3000 webcam (£20, excellent reviews) for use with the Skype app on my brand new Windows 8 PC. To my annoyance, I found it does not work and there are no simple solutions. I have tried searching for Windows 8 webcams and all I have found is hundreds of people with compatibility issues. If the iphone is capable of running a Skype video call, why can't I get my very expensive PC to do it? Does anyone know of any webcams at a reasonable price that work with Windows 8?

The iPhone has a build in camera doesn't have to be compatible with hundreds of 3rd party cameras so there's a world of difference between an iPhone and a PC.

According to Microsoft's compatibility center, it is not compatible with Windows 8 but you can see from the votes that the majority says it works.

I guess you've already tried downloading the software from Microsoft? Windows 8 works with Windows 7 drivers.

According to the topic below, it seemed to work for at least two people.

When I go to to transfer a song to iphone, ipad, ipod it just freezes up and doesn't do anything. I'm running the newest version of the program. What do I need to do? Just want to fix it. Thanks. I have waited on the program to transfer just to see if it is slow or what and it took 30 mins and nothing. I can't download software updates also.

  • What are some messaging apps that are compatible with //both// iOS and Windows? My long distance friend and I would like to converse daily. We message on Skype, but it's very glitchy. She has a Windows tablet, and I have an iPhone. I also have an ANDROID tablet if you can think of messaging apps that are compatible with either iOS&Windows or Windows&ANDROID. Please give us some apps. I can't seem to find any.
