Are camera lens for iPhone worth it?

Is it worth it to get a camera lens for the iPhone 5s as I will be studying abroad in London next semester and traveling? I don't want a bulky Nikon to carry around and was wondering instead of carrying around multiple devices, if I could bring my small videocamera and buy a camera lens for my iphone? Has anyone used a good one before?

No.

Do you mind that your images will not be nearly as good as they will be when using your Nikon?

Here is how the sensors compare, the iPhone5 and Nikon ASP-C camera

For snapshots, the iPhone is fine, but if you want to spend time to compose your images and want to make prints larger than 4x6 inch images, you will want to carry your Nikon in your backpack

Camera lenses for iPhone are a waste of time. The biggest issue with cellphone cameras is the size of the sensor, and no lens can change that. The other issue is that the iPhone isn't made to add on lenses so there's an issue of degradation from poorly fitting lenses pounted on top of its already poor lens. If you don't want to carry a DSLR around, then get a smaller NIkon CSC camera which is not that much bigger than a compact camera but does have the versatility to change lenses if you want (or you can just get the one large zoom, but then you have the standard issues of large zooms and sharpness throughout the range)

You should take a look at the Sony QX10 and QX100 which are "lens cameras" that attach to your smart phone.

Either will give you considerably better image quality.

Phone cameras yield lousey quality you best bet is to enter "compact digital cameras" in the search line of amazon.com for ultra small cameras. Ask yourself how many times are you going to Europe? Why don't you make a 5x7 print from one of your iPhone pictures? If you like the quality, then that means you really have not been exposed to 'quality" when it comes to picture taking. You are short changing yourself relying on a phone camera for such a magnificant trip/experience. Please reconsider and get a small qualtiy digital camera and remember to set the camera for maximum resolution not the largest quanity of pictures available.

No there not worth the money

  • What's the littlw hole between the camera lens and flash on iPhone 5? Between the lens and the flash there's a tiny hole. I just bought a magnetic camera lens to fit on my iPhone 5 and wondered what the hole was before I covered it with a magnetic ring. Thanks If the metal ring that the magnetic camera sits on covers this will it stop calls, videos etc from working?
