Best advice on iPhone 4S battery?

My battery doesn't die that fast or anything to serious, I just want to know the best charging practices to do so it won't get to the point of a bad battery charge. I leave it plugged in all night long, take it off in the morning, charge it some throughout the day and so on. Is that bad? What do I need to do? I haven't had the phone for very long maybe like 4-5 months and I want to take care of it. Please let me know the best way to keep the battery to continue to hold a charge for a reasonable amount of time.
