Brand New Windows 8 Laptop. Can't connect to home Wi-Fi?

I've been tirelessly searching a ton of forums to help me find an answer to my question, but I have had no success. Yesterday I bought a Gateway® 15.6" NV570P11u Touch Screen Notebook from Target. I fired it up, and was super excited to play around and surf the web. One huge problem: when I click on the internet the webpage says "This page can't be displayed"

I do not understand why because I have three bars on my Wi-Fi & when I click the Wi-Fi button in the bottom right corner, it tells me I'm 'connected' (sometimes it says limited). I literally just took it out of the box, went to set up my Microsoft Office and it wouldn't let me connect to the internet.

I have my Windows 7 Sony Vaio right next to this new Windows 8 Gateway and I'm on the internet with no problems.

When I click fix connection problems it says, "the remote device or resource won't accept the connection"

Somebody please help me, I'm clueless. Why are my other machines connecting to the internet? But not this one? (Laptops, iPhone, etc)

You may need to put in WEP or WAP code off your Wi-Fi router. Also make sure Wi-Fi is on at lap top.

Make sure your laptop's Wi-Fi switch is turned on. If it is then it sounds like your router isn't assigning an IP address to your computer. Try disabling and then re-enabling your computer's Network Card. Make sure your Firewall is turned off. Check that your network card settings are set up for a dynamic IP assignment ( no fixed IP numbers in the setup ). Click start, then run. Type in CMD and hit enter. That should open a DOS window. Type ipconfig /all then hit enter. You should see your IP address. See if it matches the IP address of other computers that do connect to the internet. The first 3 sets of numbers should be the same. The other computers will have a different number in the last set. For example: 192.168.1.2. If you are getting all zeros or it starts with a different set of numbers your router isn't assigning you an IP. You'll need to set your router up if this is the case.

  • Why won't my brand new iPhone 5C won't connect to my home Wi-Fi? I just recently bought an iPhone 5C for my mom, along with an HTC One. The 4G LTE seems to work fine on both of them, but my iPhone can't seem to connect to my home internet (the HTC connected perfectly fine). I'm 100% sure I'm inputting the correct password, and it always comes up with the same error: "Unable to join the network '[my Wi-Fi name]'" I've tried turning the phone and router off and on, but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick…
  • Why can't my desktop connect to our Wi-Fi at home but does connect to moble hotspot? Suddenly my desktop won't connect to our Wi-Fi. All other devices such as laptops, phones and tablets connects just fine. I tried connecting it to my iphone's hotspot and it works. I tried to unistall and reinstall the wireless adapter but still won't work. I also tried to reboot the router and even tried to change the channel but still failed to make it work. Do you have any other way to make it work? I have windows 7 on my desktop.
  • One laptop can connect to our home Wi-Fi network but no other devices can connect? We recently set up a wireless internet connection in our house. One laptop can connect to it (the one I'm currently on) but no other devices can connect to it. It says our "Network Security Key" is mismatched. I have tried typing in all the different codes on both the router and modem on both our second laptop and an iPhone 5. How can I fix this?
  • I found a brand new, unopened iPhone 5, is there any way that i can connect/use it? So I found this phone, and it's been laying around my house for around 6-8 months because I don't know what to do with it and I need a new phone. So i was wondering if there was any way I could take it to AT&T to connect it, or if they would think it's stolen and confiscate it D: I'm not tech savy… Please help.
