Camera vs iPhone 5 when traveling?

So I'm going on a vacation with my family oversea and it will be a MONTH long.

My husband can't join us due to his job.

Anyways, I told my husband that I need a new camera since our old one broke 2 years ago. My husband insist that I use my iPhone 5 as my main and only camera. He refused to buy a new one, because he think iPhone 5 can replace a camera.

Anyways my biggest concern is that I'm traveling for 30 days, and I know for sure that I will use up alot of memory since I'm plan on taking hundreds of photos and recording videos.

I don't think my iPhone 5 will do the job, plus it might run my battery faster.

What should I do? Is iPhone5 cable of it?

Well you've also got to be prepared to not lose it. They're small little things and can be very easy to lose especially if you're travelling for a month. Normal cameras are much less easier to lose. Also the iPhone 5 only has 8 megapixels (I think?) whereas you can buy fairly cheap optical zoom (much better than digital zoom) cameras with better megapixels. By fairly cheap I mean around the 100 mark, which is a lot cheaper than some other cameras out there.

If you're not really bothered by picture quality, though, I'd just stick with your iPhone and charge it up as much as you can. The phone has plenty of memory so you won't have to worry about running out of space.

I'm no expert, this is just my personal opinion, but I hope it helped. Have fun on your trip.

The phone won't cut it. It can only hold so many photos. A cell phone can't replace a camera.
You can get a point & shoot camera for under $100. A couple 4GB memory cards will help.

Your reasoning is correct.
Take along a decent compact with you, ideally a Canon G15 which has a tiny viewfinder as well as LCD meaning, if you have good young eyesight, that you can conserve battery power.
If you want something slimmer then get a Canon s110.In between would be Olympus XG-1 or XG-2 these last ones have excellent image quailty if you keep below ISO 400.
