Can a phone 'call itself?'?

My mom's cell phone is hooked up to our house phone through blue-tooth, but the house phone has its own separate number. Last night at 12:50, my mom's cell phone, an iPhone, was charging on my parent's nightstand and somehow called the house phone, which woke them up. We don't know how it happened. Any insights?

My grandfather died in my house exactly a week ago today, sometime shortly after midnight. We found him on the floor. With the phone thing, everyone is a bit spooked, but I wanted to see if this is actually a thing before jumping to the conclusion of 'ghost did it.' I believe in ghosts, but I don't want to jump to conclusions without searching for more answers.

Added (1). Update: My mom said the phone called itself and the house phone simply rang because they are connected. The cell phone says the call was from itself. Does that matter? Keep in mind, this was at 12:50 AM and we don't usually get telemarketers, especially at night.

Caller-ids are easily spoofed… So it probably was an external call. I get phone calls "from myself" or "local" that are NOT anywhere near me. There's no such things as ghosts… GROW UP.

1st of all I'm sorry about your grandfather.

as far as the phone - I have no idea, but there's no such thing as ghosts, except in the movies… Once someone dies, their body is placed in the ground, and their soul goes either to Heaven or Hell

No it wasn't a ghost.

More than likely, a telemarketer spammer spoofed your mom's cell number and called the home number.

It's very easy to spoof a number. My landline phone even got a call from itself. So I answered and held a very existential discussion with the very confused spammer. He got annoyed after awhile and hung up but at least I kept him from pestering other people for a few minutes.

Yes. In the old days landline phones would only get a busy signal. If your home had two lines, you could call itself. I never tried it with cell phones. I bet it sends the call directly to voice mail.

  • My iPhone 4s' brightness is turning itself low by itself? - 1 How do I fix this? Is it a bug? I have the iOS 6.1.3 installed. I did drop it in water like 2 weeks ago but I made sure all the water came out, my step mom dropped her phone in the toilet like a year ago and till this day it works perfectly fine! So why is mine having problems?
  • I can't use my speaker phone while in a phone call on my iPhone 5S? I recently got an iPhone 5S and when I call someone (a normal phone call), it won't allow me to click on my speakerphone button. It's not that it doesn't work, I'm just unable to use the function while in a call.
