Can an iphone 5 from verizon be switch over to a Canadian phone company?

I'm planning on buying an iphone 5 from verizon but i'm moving to canada next year so i wanted to know is it possible to switch it to a phone company over there?

If you do that you will have to unlock your phone. Which is very hard with the iphones. Also that would be voiding the contract and you will have to pay a fine to get out of the contract. Your best off buying an iphone with a carrier in canada or buying a unlocked iphone 5 from apple.com.

Most likely yes, but you MIGHT have to unlock it. Someone might have told me that the Verizon iPhone 5's already work with other carriers, but I'm not entirely sure.

Actually the iphone 5 is already unlock already for you when you purchase it from Verizon However you agree to a 2 year committment contract with Verizon including a data plan.

Since the iphone 5 verizon is unlocked you would need to get a GSM network provider in Canada that uses sim cards and put your sim card in the iphone 5 and it will work.

You realize every CDMA iPhone past iPhone 4 has an international Micro/Nano Sim card slot right? If you don't know what CDMA means it means Carriers that don't require SIM CARDS and works of -Electronic Serial Number- codes. Don't confuse ESN with IMEI, Every single phone has an IMEI to ESN/SIM Card activation fails. But NOTE, every other carrier has different Radio MHz Spectrum's. So if you go to a Carrier like Bell wireless you may get LTE or you may not.

  • Trading-in my water damaged phone to a phone company. Can they see my personal data? So i'm trading in my iPhone 6 for a newer version as it is water damaged (it won't turn on or anything) and my phone company said that they can recycle it.
