Can I buy a wireless router just for Wi-Fi for my iPhone?

If you have a modem then yes. They cost anywhere from around $40 and up. Easy to setup
Sure you can. It is a one-time investment, thus when you get a notebook you don't have to buy another router.
This is the only thing you would need, and the setup is pretty easy. In 99% of the cases it's 'Plug&Play' and you get a decent router for €30,- (probably $40).
How do you setup your router?
Every router has a manual telling you in what port the cable from the modem should be plugged.
Then you can take a look at the bottom of the router and see what the wireless networks name is.
Get your iPhone, go to Settings -> General -> Wi-Fi and search for that network.
Tap on it, and enter the security key which you can find on the bottom of the router too.
