Can I cancel my Verizon data plan?

I signed on to a two year contract for a phone line with my sister's already existing Verizon family plan one month ago so I could get an iPhone 4s (even though the 5 was coming out, stupid I know). Anyway, it was 10 bucks for the additional line and 30 dollars for the data - all information you Verizon customers already know. My problem is this: after a month I have decided that I no longer want the iPhone because I simply don't need it and I instead just want to use a normal flip phone. Can I cancel my data plan, only pay the $10 monthly phone line bill and simply switch over to using a normal verizon phone? I'll just but a cheap one off of craigslist or something so I don't have to get it through Verizon. Or will this not work with the two year contract and am I obligated to pay the $30 a month for data no matter what?

You are stuck paying the data plan until the 2 years is up. You can always upgrade your service with no added fees. But if you want to downgrade your service you will have to break your contract and sign a new contract.

Now I already know that I can buy one full price from Verizon for about $649 but I don't want to go that route, and I don't want to buy a subsidized iPhone 5 and end up losing my unlimited data plan. Would I be able to just wait and buy a used iPhone 5 after it comes out and then have them activate the phone on my account? They wouldn't be able to take away my unlimited data would they?
