Can I get a restraining order against someone who texted me?

A 40 something year old man has been texting me a lot about his single love life and is constantly inviting me to go to places with him. Even though I keep saying I'm going to pass, he keeps inviting me to events with his other friends which is a bit concerning since I'm only a freshman in college and he doesn't invite any of my other friends. After I blocked him from Facebook, he ended up texting me through my iPhone messenger saying he realized my Facebook account was closed and he was "sorry" but I don't believe him especially since recently I've heard that he's been doing the same thing to other young college freshman's.

The previous girl before me was an international student and even left the country early because she felt unsafe.

Can I get a restraining order filed against him even though the only evidence I have is my text messages? I ended up deleting the iPhone messenger text and blocking his number as well because I was so angry that I didn't want to see the text. But In the other texts, I've also been replying to his messages and keeping short conversations at times because I was afraid of what he might do if I told him to stop texting me since he already has a history so will that prevent me from getting a restraining order?

You can ask a lawyer about this case. The guy sounds creepy. Tell your parents, or sibling, or a friend about this so that someone's aware of that. Be safe and alert.

Restraining orders/peace bonds are only issued when the complainant produces legitimate proof that their safety or property is at risk or they are being verbally harassed in a malicious manner. Your ex texting you every now and then to see if you want to meet for coffee hardly constitutes either. If you go to the police with that, they'll probably laugh at you.

The job of the police/criminal court system is to protect people and their property from being violated, not to serve as intermediaries when people like yourself (no offence intended) can't be bothered to talk to their ex-boyfriends to ask them to stop sending you text messages a couple of times per week to go for coffee.

Somebody leaving the country is not 'history'
Just text him back and tell him you want him to stop communicating. No need to explain, just say, you don't want to talk to him.
At the moment, you're continuing to communicate with him, and if he's a bit unstable, he'll think this is a green light.

Just go and report him along with the texts to prove to the police… And learn to say "NO, don't contact me again"

Have you told him to stop or are you simply leaving that up to him to guess? Because leaving this kind of thing up to others to guess is stupid on your part. This guy thinks he has a chance and you're letting him believe that as well.

Have you asked him to stop messaging you?

You can't get a restraining order unless he is posing himself as a threat… Not because he is obnoxious.

If you have asked him to leave you alone and he continues to talk to you, then you can press charges for harassment.

ASSuming this is true, STOP saying you will pass, and FLAT OUT tell him to STOP texting you.
After that, if he continues, you you have a much stronger case for a restraining order.

Tell him to quit contacting you and then stop conversing with him. Block his number, don't answer his texts or emails. Delete your social media accounts. As other posters have already stated, there's no basis to obtain a restraining order.

I do not know the grounds for restraining orders set out by the legislature of your state or nation.

Quit replying to him. He will not do anything. Get a restraining order anyway.

  • Is she lying about texted photos directly saving to camera roll? Basically I need to know if my friend is telling the truth when she says photos texted to her phone automatically get saved to the Camera Roll (she has an iPhone). Doesn't matter if it's a default or configured setting, but just is this a possible thing for iPhones (I don't have one).
  • I texted another iphone but the text turned green could her phone be off? I texted this girl last night and my text was blue and then she texted me then I texted her a couple hours later and my text was green and I never got a text back from her. Did she ever receive my text?
  • I keep getting texts from people who say I texted them first? For the past couple of weeks now I have been getting texts from people for the last two weeks and it's continuing who are not listed in my contacts saying that I have texted them first and asking me who I'm… They may or may not be numbers I once had, I have no idea, but they are not listed anywhere in my contacts now. Why is this happening? I have an Iphone through Verizon Wireless.
  • How to get tweets texted to your iPhone? I know you used to be able to get others tweets texted to your iPhone, but are you still able to? I was watching a makeup guru on YouTube who got a one direction member's tweet texted to her phone and she has an iPhone 5. I have an iPhone 4, but it's totally updated.
