Can I get the new iPhone without paying too much for upgrading?

I currently own a non-smartphone. I'm looking into the new iPhone and I would like to buy one. I plan on purchasing the phone itself (the $199 one) and little data ($10 monthly). Is there any extra costs or ordeals I would gave to go through to upgrading phones? If so how much and what do I have to do? And if not how would I upgrade? Btw My scheduled upgrade is over the Summer, although I don't want to wait that long.

Not really.

But good luck finding a $10 data plan.

Anyway, you'd have to wait til Summer unless you want to pay for early activation

Which is an extra $100 or so on average (considering how far away your actual upgrade is)

If you really don't want to spend more than $199, you will have to wait until your scheduled upgrade time - otherwise you will either need to buy an old used iPhone, or spend $600 or more for the non-upgrade price of a new one.

How much you will pay and the kinds of ordeals will depend very much on which carrier you choose! For instance, I'm not sure too many carriers will offer you a smartphone data plan for only $10 month more. You'll have to compare them and see. I think the average smartphone user probably spends $80/month (there are cheaper plans but a lot of them don't offer contracts which means no cheap phone to start with).

Data will be $30 a month first of all. And btw the new iPhone 5c coming out is only $100! By the way depending on what company(I have Verizon) you will have a upgrade fee but you should call and ask first!

If your scheduled upgrade isn't until the summer than you can't upgrade earlier than that unless you qualify for some special reason. The $199 price you are talking about is the price you will pay when you upgrade. The phone itself costs $650 and you pay $150 when you upgrade. ALSO, I do not know which carrier you are on but if it is any of the 4 major US ones (Verizon, Sprint, ATT, Tmobile) than there's NO plan that will only cost 10 dollars a month for data. CHEAPEST will be 20 plus your other base plan costs which will be for minutes and texts. The cheapest you are going to get is around $80 a month on any of these carriers.

Now as for hidden costs and fees, YES you will get lots of them. Upgrade fees and various taxes will go into it. When I upgraded I had about $150 in extra fees. NOT per month just the first time. After that about $5-7 a month for taxes.

Also if you don't want to wait til the summer than you are out of luck. You are required to stay in your contract until it is over unless you want to pay a cancellation fee which will be substantial and you will have to purchase the iPhone at the retail price which as I said above is $650 dollars.

Hope this helped.

  • How to get Internet without paying monthly? I don't want to have to rely on my iPhone for everything I need to do online and sometimes it's completely unreliable for things. But I don't have a lot of money at all for monthly Internet, nor do I have neighbors with Wi-Fi. I just want my laptop to have Internet for as cheap as possible. Is there a type of sattelite Internet service that's a one-time payment or a cheap way to get Internet on just my laptop without screwing with my phone's data plan?

  • How to get the iPhone 5 without paying full price? I found out that if I turn in my iphone 4 then I have to pay $645 for the 5. Might as well buy the unlock one but I don't want to pay that much. I should just deactivate this one so I can spend $200 for the 5. Any other ideas?
