Can I get TracFone service on a GSM Factory unlocked iPhone?

I was just wondering how to do this, and if it is possible. I hear it is because they are both GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) phones. My LG 500g is going kind of bad, and I'm going to buy an iPhone 3GS (I do not want to cut my sim card down to get an iPhone 4).

You can't use a Iphone on Tracfone. Tracfone does not have a bring your own phone program. Tracfone sims are locked to the phone that they are activated with so they can't be used with a different phone. Tracfone cell phones are locked to only work with Tracfone. What you want to do is not possible.

You could get the Iphone and use it with the Net10 bring your own phone program. You will need to buy a Net10 sim card for $15 from the Net10 website, e-bay, gamestop. Then you will have to buy a $50 unlimited talk, text and web airtime card with 30 service days.

This statement is incorrect. Tracfone DOES have a BYO program. The issue is whether or not an iPhone can be used with Tracfone as a carrier. Different 3rd parties disagree although some say it can be done with and unlocked iPhone.

I have an iphone and use Tracfone. I purchased the unlocked phone on ebay. Tracfone does have a BYO program and my unlcoked phone works fine. So the above statement that you can't use an iphone on Tracfone is not correct.

  • Unlocked IPhone 5. Can be ported to one GSM provider but not another. Why? My friend in South Africa got an AT&T model of Iphone5. It is now unlocked and has been ported to one of his providers. He doesn't like the data rates and wanted it on either "Cell C" or "8TA" (which is Telecom Mobile) Both are GSM providers I believe. So why can the phone be ported to one GSM provider, but not the other? Should the Iphone 5 be possible unlocked in a different fashion? he assures me, it should work on the other networks in SA.
