Can I play music on my TV with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable?

I want to play music from my iPhone on my TV but don't want the Apple TV. Can I plug my iPhone in to my TV with the 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable somehow?

Only if your TV has a 3.5mm audio input. Usually a 3.5mm audio input is closely related to a VGA video input. Thus if your TV has a VGA input it should have a 3.5mm jack for audio also. You will need to switch the TV to the VGA input in order to hear any audio from your TV.
If by chance your TV does not have a 3.5mm input, it should have rca jack (red and white) inputs. You would need to buy a stereo rca to 3.5mm adapter. As in the previous possible solution, you will need to switch to the correct input on your TV in order to hear audio from your iphone.

No, you need the A/V cable to feed video into the TV. Most TVs will not work without a video signal.

If you don't want to do that, use a stereo system that has audio in and a cable to plug into your iPhone, or an FM transmitter to transmit to a stereo.

  • What's the pinout from RJ-11 to 3.5mm? I'm making an adapter for a PCMCIA modem that connects it's 2-pin RJ-11 jack to an iPhone's 3.5mm headset jack, so I can make dial up connections on the road. The problem I'm encountering is the former's lack of a ground connection, so I don't know what I should connect to what. Any ideas? I'm leaving for a trip in a day or two, so any pointers would be appreciated.
  • New music on iPhone - can't play next song if I have music on repeat? So if I have music on my iphone set to repeat (vs. Repeat album or nothing), hitting the "forward" arrow no longer goes to the next song - for some reason it restarts the song I'm currently listening too. I have to unlock my phone, open music and manually choose the song I want. How can I change this?
  • Is there a cable I can use to play my iPad on a iPhone speaker? The iphone speaker i have has the same input as the ipad (the charging input), but it is inside a box shape that the width of the iPad will not fit into. I was hoping there was some sort of cable that i would be able to connect the ipad to the speaker, perhaps dual ended cable with the charging end?
  • Iphone 4 won't play music/sound but will play with headphones? I was syncing my phone to my laptop (everything was fine before this), but when I ejected my iphone from my laptop, the sound stopped working. It will still have sounds such as alarms, voice control and that sort of thing, and I can hear it fine when I'm wearing headphones, but other than that (for instance when it's on music or an app that uses sound) it's silent. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
