The ability to do what you ask would depend on the type of email account that you have. A POP account can't do what you ask, as it downloads mail to the individual mail clients, since it is really configured to only work on a single mail client. If you turn off delete from the server when you open mail on one client, then you can get if from another. This is what your setup is sounding like. IMAP and Exchange accounts store the mail on the server and just sync to individual email clients. What is done on one device is reflected by the other devices. And before you ask, you can't just try and configure a POP account to work like an IMAP account if the email provider does not support IMAP. That would be something you would need to ask the email provider.
