Can I sync iphone without transferring music from itunes?

I have an iphone 4 but it is low memory only came with 8gb and say only 3gb left. I'm planning on now also buying and ipod 5th generation 32gb solely for music. However I'm wondering if I put lots of music onto new ipod then when I sync my iPhone to get the latest updates will it also sync music from itunes that I've created for my ipod?

No it will ask what or if you want to sync any music to the devise when you plug it in.

You could use an iOS manager application to help you sync music files from iPhone to other apple device including iPod. Here i recommend Appandora, it's free and easy handling.

I've had the same iPod for three year, put thousands of songs on it, but never synced it. Instead, I used manual management of music and video. The only songs that went on were the songs I wanted. The only songs I erased were the songs I wanted gone.

I have never synced because I never needed to. On the contrary - I've been reading iPod questions on this site for years and it's clear that the people who are having problems are those who either insist in syncing or simply don;t know that they don't have to. I've used manual management on everything from 1st Gen nano to iPad 3 & iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.3 and iTunes 11.
