Can I use a power strip connected to an USA-Europe power adapter?
I'm traveling from Chicago to Italy in a couple weeks and as a techie, I'm going to have several devices with me (iPhone 5, iPad 2, a digital camera and a iPhone charging case). I have two plug adapters, but my mom is going to be using one and I'll only have one other. I don't want to buy three more adapters for while I'm there, and I know the room will only have so many plugs. Would a common power strip work when connected to a plug adapter? Would it be safe?
The problem is the difference in voltages, 120 V in the US, 230 V in Italy.AC frequencies also differ, with 60 Hz and 50 Hz respectively.
Your arrangement would be fine if:
- The power strip can safely take 230 V. To be safe, only use a power strip with an indicated maximum voltage of at least 250 V. Using a power strip only approved for lower voltages can be devastating.
- Any appliance you may want to use is compatible with 230 V, 50 Hz. Most chargers for electronic equipment would work on both side of the Atlantic, but read carefully on every appliance. Often they will be marked "100-240 V, 50-60 Hz" or similar, in which case you will be fine. If any appliance is not approved for 230 V you must use a transformer.
- You do not overload the power strip. With equipment you mention you should be fine, even if all plugged in at once.
So long as those chargers can use 230V, and the strip is not a surge type, yes.
Most of the hotels had these Hair dryers with this multi-pronged universal 110 volt socket labeled "electric razors only" but since the iphone/ipad chargers are low current 50-60 hertz devices they work in there too. I found more adapters and a power strip in this hobby/electronics store for 5-9 euros in Germany, after our first hotel only had one open plug in the whole room, not counting the bathroom.
so you gonna sign up for international service on your Iphone before you leave? It may cost like $100 you can't just pop in an italian micro-sim into your Iphone. You can into your AT&T Ipad.
If you don't apply, remove the sim from your phone or even background updates and stuff will bankrupt you.
- Will my usa iPhone 5 work in Europe? I live in the USA but I'm going to London and Paris for my field trip next year. I was wondering if my phone will work there? Like making calls and going on my apps(Twitter, Kik, Instagram, ect) and texting? I have an iPhone 5 and my carrier is T-Mobile

- Spacebar strip of iPhone can't be touched Few months ago, I accidentally dropped my phone on the floor. I immediately picked it up and tried touching the screen, everything was fine… Except for the lower part of the phone. I couldn't type, unlock my phone because the spacebar is part of the disabled screen ;-; Someone help me.
- Should I use an adapter or converter for my travels to Europe? For a hair curler, it reads 120-240V~50/60Hz,40W. I will also be charging an iPhone & apple watch as well when traveling to Europe
