Can I use a Verizon iPhone 4 as an iPod touch?

I'm buying a Verizon iPhone 4 from someone to be used as an iPod touch. After looking around on the internet I found that some iPhones need to be activated with a sim card before using it without a service plan. The Verizon iPhone 4 never used sim cards. If I buy this iPhone will I have to go get a sim card to make it work without a service plan, or can I just buy it, plug it into itunes, and just use it as a normal iPod Touch?

Yes it needs to be activated first or you'll be stuck in the activation page. Try to get a GSM iPhone like T-mobile or AT&T because with those you can always get a friends micro sim and just put their sim in your iPhone bypass the activation and bam you're in!

You can then give back your friends sim card. But make sure its also not blacklisted or my method won't work. Or just get a factory unlocked iPhone. With a factory unlocked iPhone you don't need any sim. So you just activate it like a regular iPod touch. But they are a bit more expensive.

Don't get a Verizon or Sprint iPhone because you need to activate them at a sprint or Verizon store. You can't just swap your friends Verizon sim and activate the iPhone. So unless you are planning on using that iPhone on Verizon then you won't be able to bypass the activation screen.

If this is a Verizon IPHONE 4 then that means it has no Sim card slot since it's a CDMA iPhone. Which in other words means it doesn't use a sim card which is why it doesn't have a sim card slot. So that means you CAN'T use it because you need to go to the Verizon store to activate it as a Phone. That means pay for service.

No activated Verizon service = No iPhone

  • Should I buy an ipod touch 5th gen.or buy an iphone 5 and use it as an ipod? I was wondering what would be better to have an ipod or to have an iphone 5 and use it as an ipod, but is it worth spending more money for the iphone 5 to use as an ipod. I currently have an ipod touch 4g, o and by the way i would like either the ipod 5g in 64gb or the iphone 5 in 64gb.
  • IPhone 5 vs iPod Touch 5 (latest iPod touch)? Which is more worth it? I had the iPod touch 4 and I really loved it! But I sold it a few months ago to save up for an iPhone but now that the iPhone 5 is here and there's a new iPod touch, I'm confused. Which one should I get? For the android fans out there, don't recommend me to buy android, I'm sick of it.
