Can I use an iPhone 4 as external view monitor for DSLR?
Instead of getting a $150+ dslr external view monitor, is there a way to just hook my iPhone 4 to act as a monitor? I already know how i'm going to set it up: hot shoe mount + smartphone mount holder.
You need a device called a CamRanger. This will allow full control of your DSLR as long as you have a Nikon or Canon (Sony and Pentax are not supported). It works via Wi-Fi and will work with any iOS or Android device, or PC.
Have you done the research to see how an external LCD viewer connects to a dSLR in the video mode?
If so, does you iPhone 4 have the same connection port?
Most field monitors use an HDMI loop through connection, so your camera must have an HDMI port. My guess is that the iPhone 4 does not have an HDMI option

- Does iPhone burn battery or use external power when charging? I'm worried about conserving charge cycles. Will it save battery life span if I use it while charging or does it not switch to external power. Understood, will it help save charge cycles if i keep it charging so it only requires trickle charge, or is it the same if i drain it below half power and recharge it?
