Can i use KIK Messenger on a cruise without it costing anything?

Just curious since i'm going on a cruise in August.

KIK Messenger the app for adroids and iphones.

If there's Wi-Fi i don't see why not. I've had kik for a while and i haven't been charged anything

If the cruise is going on international waters, it will cost you money. But if the cruise has Wi-Fi it will not, unless the Wi-Fi costs money.

You must realise there's no "reception" on cruise ships at sea EXCEPT via their satellite systems. They are not part of any of the phone/data carriers cartels.
Therefore the cruise line can provide reception/transmission via their own equipment- but any user has to pay for it!

To summarise - any phone/tablet user using Wi-Fi at sea will have to "buy access" from the cruise lines equipment. CHECK the prices before you sign up - they are not FREE nor cheap!

The cost depends on your home carrier. For example AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint charge $2.49 per minute. T-Mobile charges $4.99 and Rogers Wireless charges $7. Text rates are around 50 cents to send and 5 cents to receive. Check with your carrier to make sure international roaming is activated and what the actual cost is.

Internet usage cost the same if you use your own or the ship's computers. A package will cost about $100 for 250 minutes. By the minute it can cost 65-75 cents. You pay for all time while online even while composing emails. Service is extremely slow and is not practical for anything other than email and airline boarding passes. You can easily use up 15 minutes just signing in, reading your email, and signing out.

The telephone in your room will cost over $10 a minute.
