Can lightning damage my iphone?

I was a filming a bad storm yesterday and lightning would strike and send like a wave or static thing across my phone. I guess interference or something. Did this damage it?

Very simple. Does it work? Yes? Then it was not damaged.

No, the lightining happened too fast for the camera on your phone to actually see it, so that's why that happened. Your phone will be fine

Here are a few misunderstanding about the lightning:
- Metal does not attract it!
- Rubber tires doesn't protect you from it!
- Electronics doesn't attract it nor is subject to be damaged by it!

The lightning will hit any object with a mass that is higher than roughly the radius of which the lightning is about to strike. For example, the mast of a sailboat at sea will be hit if the lightning is about to strike within a radius of its height over the sea. It doesn't make a difference if the mast is aluminum or tree. This was proved by the British yacht magazine "Practical Boat Owners" some years ago.

But if the lightning is to hit a high voltage aerial powerline, it may happen that some of the energy will reach the ground through your electrical outlet in your house and, on its way, damage electrical appliances that are directly connected to a plug on the wall.

If your home gets its electricity from an aerial powerline, it is safer to unplug all electrical appliances during a thunderstorm.

Your car is safe during a thunderstorm, but not because of the rubber tires but because the metal body of the car makes a Faraday cage around you and the electricity will only travel outside it.

Wow. It certainly could do some damage. Phones are made to handle electrical shocks from humans, but not from lightning.

Is your phone still working? If it's working now then there was no damage.

Edit:
Are you saying that you filmed lightning with the camera on your phone? That would not damage the phone.
