Can using ear buds mess up my hearing?

I have never liked ones like these:

thats just to give you an idea of what i use, in case effect vary.

but my grandmother told me that there were these hair like thing on the inside of your ear, and listening to loud music to much can basically kill them off, and they don't grow back. I don't want to mess up my hearing, but it seems kinda unrealistic. So would listening to music form these actually mess up my hearing?

I wouldn't say I listen to music loudly, but I do listen loud enough where i can hear what a person says when their trying to talk to me.

No i don't think so its up to you how you use ear buds. I'm using ear buds last 3 to 4 years but i never have any problem with ear buds.use lightly don't push more and more in ear

I will say this, after using earbuds myself with my Samsung Galaxy S3, I've never had a problem.

Yes I do lose some hearing temporarily sometimes after I'm done listening to music (and I've BLASTED the volume to it's highest level) but it recovers very quickly

but no, it doesn't 'kill off' the hairs in your ears, but smoking will burn them off. Just like the hairs in your nose lol, so no, ear buds won't kill your hearing, smoking does that though, just to give you an idea.
