Caught shoplifting, will this go on my record?

Today me and my friend were at Walmart. He took a car charger and two iPhone cases. I told him he was being really loud and obvious and that there were people everywhere, and even walked away from him at one point. I honestly just wanted to get out of there. He stuck on of the iPhone cases in my purse and I didn't know it. The minute we walked out the door this lady came and got us and said she was security. They accused me of being his look out. They took both of our IDs and filled out some paper work. The woman called the police because the amount of the murchandise was 60 dollars. My friend is only 16 so she called his parents and said he might go to juvie depending on what the cop says. I'm 17 and turn 18 on Friday so I'm considered an adult. She didn't call anyone for me but told me I would most likely go to jail. When my friends mom got there she said we would have to pay a fine of 150 dollars that Walmart would mail to us and that we would be in the Walmart system as shoplifters. She said some other crap about this going on our record and never being able to get a job in retail. Luckily for us, the cops didn't show up soon enough and she had to let us go.So, since the cops never came and no fingerprints or photos were taken and we had to sign nothing, will this actually go on my CRIMINAL record or just the Walmart one? I've never been in trouble before so I really don't want this hanging over me.

You will have to be charged and convicted to get a criminal record. If you weren't already charged, chances are you won't be. Also, if you are 17 you are still a minor. One more thing. Get new friends.

No. Unless they track you down. But if you never have to deal with them, you're clear.

Several things can happen: 1) walmart doesn't file charges and you never hear from them again 2) walmart files charges and you receive a date to appear in court 3) walmart files a civil case requiring you to pay a sum of money. Basically the only way you will have this incident on your record is if you are convicted of a criminal charge. Depending on your state, you may not be charged as an adult. Considering your age and clean record you will likely be offered a plea agreement along the lines of you plea no contest and the court allows you to do community service and once the hours are complete you have the charges dismissed. Whatever the case, don't worry yourself too much! This is a very minor offense and it will not ruin your life. Just learn from it and don't make this mistake again! Best of luck to you.

They have photos and may still press charges. Because your dumb enough to have a friend who steals you must realize he put you in danger of a criminal record which could stick with you for life. I'm a former Walmart store manager. I've prosecuted and released many shoplifters. The police didn't show up to late they were not called.
