Clearing some of the Other Data on my iPhone4?
I have an 8 gb iPhone 4. Suddenly, the "other" category in its storage is at almost 4gb. Is there a way to lower this without doing a reset? I've deleted all of my texts, and all the things places recommend… Help?
The only other way would be to do a restore.
"Other" is data on your phone that is not apps, ibooks, photos, music or videos. This means operating system settings and data, Safari cache, Siri cache (only 4S & 5), downloaded map journeys, reminders, notes, stocks, weather data, email, texts, imessages, and data for all of the apps on your phone. 1 GB is normal for Other. It can be much larger if you have a lot of apps or have apps that use a lot of data, such as Facebook. If you want to have a small Other don't install any apps, don't have lots of emails, don't save texts, don't use maps… But then why would you have an iPhone in the first place? Other is not a problem; it is what the phone is for. There are rare situations where Other is much larger than the data it holds; this is due to data corruption, but when it happens Other may become 5 GB or more. A simple way to check is to restore the phone and reload the backup using iTunes so you don't lose your settings and content. Once the restore is done, and before you use the phone, check the size of Other. This is the total for all of your data except the exclusions I mentioned at the start. Hope I helped. If not go into the Apple store and show them the iPhone.
- Will clearing cache on my iPhone delete my voice recordings? I've recorded songs on the Voice Recorder app on my iPhone and I'm thinking about clearing cache on it, but I'm afraid that if I clear out my cache, my recordings will be gone. Will that happen?
- Will clearing cache in an app make me lose data or memory? I need to clear up space on my iphone and I keep reading about clearing cache. If I do that will I lose progress on a game, for example, or will I basically be resting the app? Basically will I notice a difference if I do clear my cache?
- Run-time memory-clearing application for iphone? I have iPhone 3GS 6.0.1, and it kept slowing and freezing even after reset or restart. It wasn't like this before. They said i should try installing run-time memory-clearing application, but i don't know any app. Anyone knows any run-time memory-clearing app that's free?
