Cracked iPhone screen? What to do?

I have an iPhone 4. I dropped it and the front screen broke. I have Verizon so I went to a Verizon store to maybe just use an upgrade and get a new phone but it was really complicated. I was going to use another phones upgrade but that phone has unlimited Internet and if I did it, the Internet on that phone would change to limited. I don't want that and he was trying to add on this weird webcam & a modem for the house phone which I didn't need neither but he said it would lower the cost. But it was still expensive. I don't have insurance on my phone & even if I did, it wouldn't even cover a cracked screen so I don't see the point of insurance when the main issue with all iPhones are cracked screens. I called apple and the guy said it would be 149. He said if I went somewhere else other than apple to fix the screen, if I later had another issue with my phone where I had to take it to apple again, they can tell if the glass isn't from apple so that'll void my warranty but I don't even think I have a warranty? I bought the phone from Verizon. And he said something about apple care. I don't even know what that is?

The iPhone has a one year warranty. I'd just have Apple fix it if you want to salvage the phone. Also, get a the Extreme screen protector from Zagg for iPhone 4.

If your iphone is over a year old its out of warranty and apple charges a lot for out of warranty "repairs" the best thing would be to have it repaired by a third party ask if they are using oem parts if you would like apple to not know you had it repaired it will cost around $60-$80. They really just want you to buy a new device for obvious reasons. I'm guessing you have the iphone 4 because that what apple charges for a out of warranty "repair" which they will most likely be giving you a brand new iphone 4 if you chose to pay $150
