Devices to record voice memos?

Lately I've been thinking and creativity has been flowing through me. I'll think up an idea that is Incredible and want to write it down, but I don't have a pen and paper to write them down. I used to write ideas in my notes on my phone, but that became time consuming and my phone would sometimes crash, and I would lose those notes. Is there any device that I can use to record voice memos similar to like what is on my iPhone, but made specifically for voice memos? I would use the memos on my phone, but they fill up too much space.

Yes and they have been around for years. There are 2 main types. The less expensive ones are small hand held voice recorders that use the "D" size small tape cartrages, but they only play and record at 1.875 "/sec as compaired to a "C" type unit at 3.75 "/sec, so they are not much good for music. The better and newer ones are digital. You can find them at RadioShack, Bestby and Wall-Marts as well as online. Some have features like vox operation and usb interfaceing etc.

In the past, people used handheld tape recorders…

… Later, they used handheld cassette recorders,
then microcassette recorders…

… And now they use handheld digital voice recorders.

It seems to me that Sony offers the best value for the money
in this product category.
