Did I just buy a stolen iPhone?

I found an ad on Kijiji for a used iPhone and met up with the guy at the Fido store (the phone he was selling is unlocked with Fido and I'm a Fido customer).

He gave us everything in the box and the earphones had not been used.

He also gave us the documentation for it which is the agreement made. He had said that there were 3 months left on the warranty, pointing to where it said "Date of Agreement: 11/06/12" so I thought ok cool the warranty ends in November 2013 then. Now I realize that the agreement was made on that day but it has nothing to do with the warranty.

Also, it says at the bottom of the page that the term agreement is for 3 years meaning the phone is on a 3 year contract. So if he purchased it in November 2012, this is only its first year…

Under the customer name, it had a woman's name (of a way different ethnic background), and my mom asked who that was. At first I heard him say it was his friend but then when my mom asked "What?" he said it was his wife.

Another thing I think is off is that he said if something happens to it, to just go to the Apple store because they go by the serial number to check for the warranty, and didn't give us any papers for the warranty.

It all just came together in my head just now that I probably just bought a stolen phone… Did I?

Added (1). If I have the guy's number can I report it to the police?

Yes.

Sounds like it

Most likely yes i would get it checked out to make sure

You might want to take that phone back rite away because you can be in some serious *** and don't buy *** from him neither. He sounds like he set you to get rid of the phone. Then the other thing is the last with the phone probably. Terminated there contract but I would take it back if you really want a iPhone try

Why would you report him to police? What have he done? You bought a used phone from him and as he said that there's 1-year warranty on the phone. You're confusing insurance with warranty. Warranty is provided by Apple while insurance is provided by the carrier. So when you've bought the phone from him, you won't come under insurance, you'll just get the warranty which is till Nov '13. Also, you can use the phone without any problem, right? So how come the phone is stolen? Do research before accusing.

  • Phone stolen but if know who did it? I hog my iPhone six stolen at park, using my connections I quickly got in contact with the thief. I got him to agree to meet me alone tomorrow and he's charging me a $200 to get it back. I agreed but obviously I don't want to pay up for my stolen phone. How should I approach this without calling the cops. I will use violence if needed
  • If you've ever been cheated on, how did you feel and what did you do? I've never caught a partner cheating on me yet, but I think if I did I would have to cause them a lot of problems. What did you do about a cheating partner?
  • If I just buy an AT&T iPhone 5 can I just put my sim card in it and it'll work? I wanted to buy a new iPhone, and didn't want to have to get a new contract. I wanted to know if I just bought a new iPhone off the internet with my company would I be able to do this, because I'm really getting sick of this iPhone 4. Someone please help me with this question.
  • I have a stolen iPhone 5c but I didn't know it was stolen? I bought an iPhone and checked the imei and I found out it was stolen. I can't use it yet because it is stuck in the beginning where it says " please insert a sim card, SIM required" I just want to use it as an iPod since I got it for a good cheap price. It is a sprint phone, and also if I take it to Apple or Sprint will they take the phone away? I didn't know it was stolen and I don't want to get blamed or end up losing money. The iPhone was restored already.
