Do I have iPhone thumb or repetitive strain injury?

My thumbs have really been hurting for a few months now, maybe about four at the least. It's like a dull and achy pain centered around the ball of my thumbs and they both click CONSTANTLY. More or less every time I move my thumb and if I try my hardest not to let them click, they get so stiff and really hurt.
In the mornings I've been waking up with them being very stiff and aching as well.
I have an iPhone and have had it for nearly 2 years and I've never had any thumb problems before it…
I use it quite a lot - I sent about 5000 texts a months if that gives you an indication! I'm never really off it to be honest - I have the Facebook, tumblr and twitter apps so yeah, constantly on it.
Is there a link between the two? And is there any way to stop the pain that wouldn't involve me cutting down my use?

Using the iPhone or iPad can cause RSI. I have RSI from working behind the computer a lot but using the iPhone or iPad a lot can also give me pain. I can give you two tips:

1. Cutting down your use as you already figured out yourself
2. Keep your blood flow, going by doing exercises. Try and find some dumbells and train your muscles. Believe me, working out helps.

Hi
There's a good chance that you iphone has caused this.

RSI can go away but the major thing you need to do is rest your hand. Once the symptoms have gone you will need to alter the way you use your phone. Also the amount you use it.

Take regular breaks and perform stretches before and after use will prepare your muscles and joints and help them recover. If you are suffering in one thumb, try alternating fingers and thumbs when using.

If you don't address this your issues will increase and you will run the risk of doing permanent damage.

Hope this helps

  • What does the Iphone 5 have, that the Iphone 4s doesn't have? I was just curious because I have the Iphone 4s, but I'm not sure why I would upgrade to the Iphone 5. Are there any new features?
  • My thumb hurts from using iPhone? I use my iPhone 5s a lot, end over the last 4 months my right thumb has been slightly swollen and is in pain whenever I use it on my screen. Does anyone know what this is and how I can cure it?
  • Is it safe to delete photos that I saved to a thumb drive? I have no space on my phone (iPhone 5s if it matters) so I used my charger to hook my phone up to my laptop and copied all my pictures into a thumb drive there. I want to delete all the pictures on my phone now, but I'm really worried. These pictures have so many memories that I do not wish to loose, so if I delete them will they still be safe on my thumb drive?
  • I have four pairs of apple iphones and all have them have stopped working? Every single one of them has stopped working so that I can only hear music in one earphone and not the other. I can't contact apple to complain because apparently you have to pay to do that! Do other non apple earphones work on an ipod? I don't want to pay like £25 for a set of earphones that is going to break in a week when I can pay £2.50 for a better pair that isn't apple.
