Do I have to sign up for Facebook messenger in order to send/receive inbox messages?

When I looked up a classmate I haven't seen in years, I sent a message to her inbox. Even though the message is clearly there and time/datestamped when I go to "messages" (which is now the "FB Messenger" button, thanks to Facebook's upgrade), I'm not sure if she is capable of receiving it, since I didn't sign up for Facebook messenger. It's kind of confusing, because when I attempted to inbox her on my iPhone, I was forced with the option of signing up for FB Messenger. So I went to my computer instead, where I was able to inbox her without having to sign up for that.

Facebook messenger is the same thing as it was before, it's just using a different app - if you have a facebook account it will automatically have a messenger on mobile you have just got to say its you and confirm. No extra signing up!

You already have Messenger Facebook Messenger is Required in order to send and Receive Messages on the Desktop you should notice the Messenger Icon is on there you have Messenger on there on a Mobile Device Phone or Tablet if you Refuse to get the Messenger app you can't send and get messages

  • If you use FB messenger, do your messages show up in your inbox on FB? Say someone was messaging you from the FB messenger app from their iPhone and you didn't have the app on your phone - the messages will show up as a message in the inbox. What if you were to download the app onto your galaxy note and then message this person back? Would the messages you send from the app be shown in your messages on FB?
