Do I need to unlock my AT&T iPhone 4S to work on H2O Wireless?
So, I have an AT&T iPhone 4S that I want to use with H2O wireless. I went to a store, and they told me I needed to unlock my phone in order to use it with H2O wireless and that it would cost me $50 for them to unlock it. I don't understand because my cousin has been with 2 AT&T iPhones and he's never had to unlock them when he activated them with H2O wireless.So, was the woman at the shop trying to steal my money or do I really need to unlock my AT&T iPhone 4S to work on H2O wireless?
You really do need to unlock - but AT&T might do it for free, depending on how long you've had the phone and the status of your account.
Basically, when you buy an AT&T iPhone with a contract, it's locked and it won't work on any other carrier until you unlock it. But buying it locked is much cheaper than buying it unlocked (unless you buy a used unlocked one).
You don't need to unlock your iPhone. H2O wireless uses the same towers as AT&T so it will work without an unlock. Do this, when you go to the store, as for the sim card and put it into your iPhone… You will see that it will work just fine without an unlock. Also, $50 for an unlock is outrageous… You can find one on eBay for $2.50 and its remote so you DON't need to send your phone in to anyone.
