Do you prefer iPhone or Android? And why?

EITHER ANY thing is better that is not a flip phone

Android. I like the layout of the apps and settings and it has easy configuration also they are cheaper then iPhones. I just overall like the phones

IPhone. I've had one since they first came out. All upgrades have been flawless. Never any data or photos lost.

Whichever is fine

Android.

Android gives you a choice of manufacturer, with each manufacturer having a large number of products.
There's competition, and competition is a good thing, it drives the price down, and drives innovation.
Now, one can say that iPhone are competing with Android, which is partly true; but once you decided to go with Apple, you made a choice that limits your options.

I develop Android apps. I can do that using several environment, I can distribute the app using different channels.
But develop for iPhone? You have to do it using Apple's Xcode, using their own programming langage (swift), mandatorily running on a Mac (the cheapest new Mac available is about $800 US, and that is a Mac mini, no screen, no keyboard -- for that price, you have one heck of a Windows or Linux game rig). And if you want to use an old Mac, you are also stuck: a 2009 iMac, for instance, can't have the latest OS installed, it is limited to OS X El Capitan from 2015. Check what minimum requirements are needed to install Windows 10 in comparison, a 10 year old machine should have no problem running it.

And once you are finished with your app, you have to pay a developer fee of $100/year to be allowed the right to have it reviewed in the hope that it could be listed on the Apple App Store, which is the ONLY place an iPhone is allowed to get applications.
Meanwhile, on play.google, which is not even the only place your app can be listed, the developer fee is $25/life.

Apple wants to control everything, which is not necessarily bad in itself, as it prevents "accidents", but they charge you premium and a half for it.

Another example?
My wife and teenage son have iPhones, and teenagers being the sloppy people they are, after yanking the charge cord too many times, he managed to destroy them. No problem, I though, USB cords are readily available and fairly cheap, right?

Think again.
Apple managed to put some little logic chip in their cables that the iPhone talks to: "Are you a charge cable with the secret password that shows your manufacturer paid an inordinate fee to Apple to have the 'Apple approved' licensing logo? No? Then I will not charge. End of story."
Apple charge cord sells for double to triple the price of comparable USB cables usable with Android devices. It is a bloody 4 connector WIRE for crying out loud, same as USB. It either conducts electricity, or doesn't. But Apple wants a piece of that business as well.

When you consider it all, you do not own an iPhone; Apple does. You barely rent it. Apple can decide to make your device fail in your hand if they want. THEY control the phone.

Iphone. Far more stable and secure than most Android phones - and I prefer the menu system for a phone.

I also have an Android tablet, & only update phones when i _need_ to, not because something new comes out.

The various top-model Android phones that cost similar amounts to iphones are equally good technology-wise, it's purely preference, whichever you personally get on with best.

IPhone

Better ecosystem, better build, better support, better with updates.

Android as it is user friendly

Neither. I prefer Kyocera
