Does an iPhone restore from backup move the phone number?

I recently moved to the iPhone 5(and switched numbers), but I need information from an iTunes backup of my old iPhone 4.

If I temporarily restore from the old backup, grab the info, and re-restore it to what it is now, will my phone go back to the old number or keep my current for that small amount of time? I realize normally phone numbers carry with the SIM card, but I'd rather ask and know for sure.

Also, both phones were running the newest iOS 6.0 so I will not be switching between OS's - if that even matters…

The number is not affected by an iTunes back up. Nor can it be in the same regard. Your number on your SIM stays there for life & can't be affected, except only by the carrier.

  • Is there anyway to undo the backup restore that itunes does for your Iphone? I got a new iPhone 4s under warranty after my old was damaged. I started fresh and started to input numbers myself as well as apps. I just plugged it into iTunes and now all of my old stuff is back on my new phone. Contacts, pictures, etc. Is there anyway that I can undo the backup restore iTunes did to my phone and go back to how I had it before I plugged it up?

Hi, yesterday I had to reset my phone (IPhone 8 plus) to factory default and restore it to its last backup (April 15th). I also have an iPad mini, which everything is Synced. I got everything back on my phone (up to date) except my text messages. I'm not able to access my computer right now and have read you can get them back my backing up you messages to ICloud. Is there anything I can do to get them back on my phone (they are still on my iPad mini), without using my Mac?
