Does EU consumer protection apply to products bought outside of the EU?
I just wanted to know if, for example, someone bought an iPhone from outside the EU i.e. Hong Kong Apple Store, and they are normally resident in the UK, would they be covered under EU 2 year consumer protection law? I don't think that it is, but I'd like to make sure that that is the case.
It is the place of purchase that matters - and only that.
That is where the contract of sale existed.
So buy in the UK: UK sale of goods act applies (5-6 years exceeding the EU 2 year req.)
But elsewhere in the EU: EU 2 year warrenty applies
Buy in the US: 90 days standard warrenty
Buy elsewhere… Minimal cover usually…
If you used a UK credit card for a purchase over 100 pounds,
and there's some joint liability if things go wrong
and you may also have inbuilt sales insurance that adds to that…
The apple website is very good at detailing the warrenties around the world

- Will Chase SLATE card honor a purchase protection claim for item bought in Amazon? About 40 days ago, I bought an iPhone 5 on Amazon from a "reputable seller" (not a retail store like best buy or a big chain), yesterday I my phone got stolen, filed a police report and everything since someone stole my wallet as well. My concern is, will chase (slate card) WILL give me their purchase protection benefit even though the item was bought on Amazon? The item was new and below 500 USD, will they reimburse me?
- Will an Iphone work with consumer cellular? I'm going to buy an iphone 4s from somebody off of craigslist. It is an unlocked iphone that was previously used on at&t, and I was wondering if it would work on my plan for consumer cellular. I plan to just insert my sim card into the phone, and have it work. Will that be the case? If it's not the case, please explain how i will ave to do it. Also, if I can't, tell me why.
