Does iOS 6's Passbook use a lot of data?
I will be getting an iPhone in a month or so when my current cell contact ends, at which point my family will be transitioning onto Verizon's new shared plan. We're only going to be getting the minimum 1GB of Data, which may or may not be shared with only one other smartphone on my family's shared plan. I was wondering though - how much data does pass book use?
With how often I visit locations with discount/membership cards (I also plan on using it for Cinemark tickets as well), I'm very excited about Passbook. With only 1GB of data, though (potentially 0.5GB if I'm sharing it with my sister), I don't want to run my data up by leaving it on. I don't plan on using much data - between school and home I pretty much always have a reliable Wi-fi connection to rely on, but I may use it for the occasional directions or checking email. I don't know if Passbook can get information such as its location through a combination of GPS and local Wi-fi (eg., if the local Sheetz has a Wi-fi network, would the app be able to discern location without having access to the network?), or will it rely solely on 3G/4G - and, if so, will this hog Data, or will I be good?
Passbook uses very little network data; most of the passes need to be copied to Passbook from other apps. If you are connected via Wi-Fi, your iPhone will default to that connection rather than cellular data.
Note that Passbook is also included on the iPod touch, which has no cellular circuitry.
The time and location-based Passbook alerts hardly take up any network data.
If you are worried about cellular data consumption, the biggest culprit/drain by far is streaming video playback, followed by uploading video. Also, uploading photos, viewing lots of photos and streaming audio will use a considerable amount of data, but nothing like video.
Since you claim to have good Wi-Fi at both home and school, I don't see why the 1GB shared plan would be much of an issue, assuming whomever you are sharing the cellular data plan is a considerate and thoughtful user.
- Will deleting passbook on iphone 4 delete my photos? If I delete passbook on my iphone 4, will this delete my pictures, or messages or apps or anything like that? Will it clear a lot of storage on my phone? I don't think I have anything stored on passbook as I have never used it because I only just found that it existed today and I have had this phone for 2 years! So anyway, if I delete passbook will anything on my phone be deleted and will more storage be cleared?
- Why is the iOS 6 passbook app not working? I just installed iOS 6 on my iPhone 4 and when I open the passbook app and hit the App Store button on the bottom it opens up the App Store then an error pops up "can't connect to iTunes Store" anyone having the same issue?
- Stubhub to Passbook IPhone 5 help (need instructions)? Does anybody know how to move tickets bought on the stubhub app into their passbook on an iPhone 5? If so could you give me some step by step instructions on how to do so? It would be greatly appreciated! Also does it cost any money to transfer the tickets into passbook?
- Starbucks on passbook? IPhone device? Hi guys I recently downloaded the Starbucks app and got the Starbucks card on my passbook (which I can reload whenever I want) my question here is that my girlfriend of long term is also a big Starbucks fan. Would there be any way if she can use the same card as well? I saw on passbook that I can send it to her in a message and she can "add" it to her passbook. Would she be able to use it without any issue at the store since it's under my name? All answers will help thank you
