Does kik messenger take internet minutes?

I have an iphone 3 and i wanted to get kik. Does it use up internet? I can use internet in my house and it won't cost money but when i leave my house it will cost money. So will it cost money and will it take up my internet usage?

When you're at home you connect to kik (or the internet) via Wi-Fi connection to your home's wireless network, hence you don't incur any charges from within your phone. But when you leave your house and are outside the range of your home's wireless connection (or any other accessible Wi-Fi network), you use your phone's internet connection ( your 'data plan' ), which can be 'pay as you go', or prepaid or postpaid etc. You will be charged/have your internet used up conforming to this data plan. This is true for kik or any other messaging app which uses the internet/data, as opposed to your phone's inbuilt sms/text messaging. Anyway, it won't take up much data, the data usage should be nominal for average use.
