Does sending and recording pictures use up your data?

I have 4g of data a month. Someone told me that when you send pictures through text. It uses up data. Is there any way to check? Does it really? I have Verizon. Unlimited text and talk. And an iPhone 4S.

MMS messaging, also referred to as "picture texts" most certainly do use data. You can check your usage via My Verizon Mobile (a free app available for the iPhone from Verizon).

When sending pictures, MMS texting, it does use up data! While it doesn't affect your texting (because you have unlimited) it does affect your data. Depending on your plan, there's a special app that's free under My Verizon. The one I use shows my data usage starting from each new billing period. It's got a "fillup" line that tells me how much data I've used so far. I highly recommend using this because it keeps you from going over. If you need help with the app, go to your nearest Verizon store. The people are really nice at mine and help with anything!
