Does the Iphone price drop during the announcment or release? - 1

I understand the Iphone 5S is being announced in Sept. With Iphone history of price dropping for upgrades… Does the price typically drop when the announcement is made? Or would I have to wait until the actual IPhone 5S release. I want to upgrade my iphone from a 4 to either 4S or 5. Apple hasn't really enticed me to upgrade yet but my phone is having problems now and if the 4S is free I'd do it. Just wondering how long I'd have to wait.

The 5s was released in 2013. The one that will be released is going to be the 7 and I think in most plans, the 5s is already on the free upgrade tier.

The oficial Apple price drop of older models is when the new one is announced by them, on phone companies it usually happens after release or even before the anouncement to get rid of stock.

On choosing between the 5 and 4s for today, I would totally recommend the 5 over the 4s because the 4s suffers from a lot of lag on iOS 9, but hey it's a phone from 2011, it been supported for almost 5 years now. Search on youtube to see comparisons of the 4s, 5, 5s, 6, SE and 6s on iOS 9 to have an idea of how fluid each one is. In terms of specs the SE is better than the 6 but it's smaller so it depends on if you'd want a bigger screen or a somewhat faster phone.

The price will drop when the announcement is made. Pre-orders will begin shortly after the announcement, even though, the iPhone 5S and 5C may not be available for another week. Because per-orders will begin soon after the announcement, the price of the older, iPhone 5 will drop when the announcement is made.

Its likely, that the iPhone 4S will be discontinued, to make room for the new iPhone 5C. Apple wants to discontinue all products that use the older 30pin adapter, in favor of the newer lightning port. Since the iPhone 4S has this older adapter, its likely to be replaced by the 5C.

This means, there will be a 5, 5C and 5S, all of which will feature both the larger 4.1" screen and the smaller 8pin lightning adapter. The 5S, will be the superior of the three available iPhone, with a much faster processor, thinner design, improved screen and better camera. The 5C, will be similar to the iPhone 5, but will feature a plastic case, instead of glass.

It is rumored, that the iPhone 6, which will be released next year, will have a 4.8" screen. So, you may want to decide if you want to wait for a larger screen, before upgrading. However, the 4.1" screen is considerably larger than the older 3" screen found on your iPhone 4. All new iPhones, being released, this year, will come with iOS 7.

Best of luck.

  • Would the price of the iPhone 5s decrease significantly after the release of the iPhone 6? I've liked the look of the iPhone 5s since if what first released. It looks great and it's the perfect size for me. But it's just so expensive! How much would it be when the iPhone 6 comes out?
  • Will the price of the iPhone 4 drop? I want to buy an iPhone 4 off eBay without a contract… Will the price drop now that the iPhone 5 is out? And how much? When is the ideal time to buy it?
  • Will the iphone 6s proce drop with the release of the SE? I wanted to by the iphone 6s, but heard of the release of the new SE on the 31st. I still want to buy the 6s (due to the bigger screen, etc.) however I'm not sure if I should wait until the release of the SE. I don't know of the price will drop considering the fact that the SE is almost the exact same as the 6s. Should I wait for the release or should I go ahead and buy the 6s?
  • Will the iPhone 6s price drop with the release of the iPhone SE next week? I've been thinking of getting the 6s for a while now and I know the price has dropped quite a bit since it's release but I want to know if it's still worth waiting a bit if it'll go down again once the new phone comes out. I know previously in iPhone history this is usually what happens but considering the fact that this phone will be cheaper I don't know if the same thing would happen. Any info would be great, thanks!
