Does this iPhone seller sound legit?

I'm buying a used iPhone 5 off of Craigslist tonight, but want to make sure I don't get ripped.

It's a pretty fair price he is selling it for and it is already locked to the carrier I'm on. He does say in his description… "Selling my 32 gig iPhone. The phone is in near perfect shape 9/10 and is currently on ***** network but not being used. I'm looking to cancel the contract. Email me if you would like to see it."

So I've agreed to meet up with him and purchase the phone. I've done some background info and I know where he works and what he does so that makes me feel a little less sketched out if he tries to scam me.

What does he mean by looking to cancel the contract? The last thing I want is a phone that hasn't had its bills paid so they lock out the phone on me when I start using it.

He can't pay the bill so it will be shut off or he stole it and wants quick cash. Yes, they will lock the phone and only he can fix that. Carriers and Apple do not get involved in third party purchases and don't care. I'd play with the phone to see if it works, and see if there's an iCloud account on it. If there's, make him take it off. If he can't or won't, walk away. 'If it's too good to be true… It probably is'. Best luck.

These are good instructions for verifying an iphone is not stolen or bad http://www.justtext.com/messageboards/20140127095337.html If he says he's cancelling the contract then that may mean its going to get blacklisted after you get it. Find out what he means!

You meet him at the phone store so you can transfer the number from his account to your account. That way, after you buy it he can't then report it stolen and get it locked while his insurance company buys him a new phone
