Does upgrading your iphone make the camera better?

For Christmas I got the iphone4s. I still have to take it to the apple store to activate it.
It hasn't been upgraded in anyway what so ever. When opened up the camera option, I noticed the quality was poor. At first i thought it was the lighting, but it wasn't. If I update the software, will it change the camera quality? I thought this might have been a really stupid thing to ask, since it probably doesn't, but I just want to make sure.

Yeah I know sometimes you don't get it with the new IOS 6 the new update you can update it for free on your iPhone because I got iPhone 4S and you just go to settings and it'll say update your iphone some where which will be in the settings
Hope that helped

Might be a issue or your end. Again I would just bring to apple store and plan a genius appointment to ask the questions you have

No, updating the iOS won't have any effect on the hardware. I suggest you should get the camera checked out.

No… Upgrading the software would not make the hardware better. No one complained about the iPhone's camera before particularly the 4, 4S & 5's.

It could be a software bug with your iPhone, if this is the case, a software update will indeed fix your problem.

To Update your iPhone's software:
Via iTunes:
1) Plug your iPhone into your computer with the Syncing cable
2) Open up iTunes
3) Look on the Devices tab on the left for your iPhone
4) Click on it and under Summary it should show the option to Update it

Via iPhone:
1) Go to Settings
2) Go to General
3) Go to Software Update

* If you're installing the update directly from your phone, make sure you have it plugged into the charger, because if you don't and it powers down you'll lose all the progress the update has made to your device and you'll have to reinstall it when you're near a charger again**

Don't update! You can jailbreak it for happiness.

The camera quality will remain the same even if you do upgrade the software. Try turning HDR on before you take pictures, it gives better pictures though more grain in the picture.

Camera is built in and software don't change the quality. If the camera is 5MP it will be 5MP and the software will not do nothing to the camera quality
