Does using GPS cost anything (job interview tomorrow scared of getting lost)?
I have a job interview tomorrow and I have a habit of getting lost on my way to job interviews no matter how much time I spend on Google maps trying to memorise the journey I always get lost.
So in have an iPhone 3gs and I have downloaded Google maps and two app that claim to be free sat nav but to me it sounds a bit too good to be true since nothing is free these days. Today I tested the free sat nav when I was going to pick my sister up from school which was about 10 minutes walk I used to free sat nav app and it did work it guided me back to my house.
I have the iPhone map on my phone, Google maps and the other free sat nav (forgot its name phone batty dies)
by the way am on Vodafone, pay as you go with 3p credit which is virtually nothing so is GPS free
It won't cost anything to use them it will just use data
You paid to get an iPhone wit the GPS chip in it, so technically it was not free.
But you did pay for it *already*.
Note that this answer was provided to you free… So there are things that are offered gratis, even these days.
In a long run, using GPS only costs you the price of the gps module / chip purchase and purchase of the eventual software.
also, purchasing a lifetime or similar update rights to the payware like Garmin.
the googlemaps is not the best tool around but i think it will guide you just fine.
i personally use Garmin unit with openstreetmap (OSM) data for my car and i use the Locus free (that costs you only your nerves with flashing ads) with predowloaded openstreet map tiles for my cellphone (but i don't use navigation feature there, i use that for geocaching.
Probably, but since you're not flying there, I suggest you try the Cell Phones & Plans forum over in the Consumer Electronics category instead, or check with your phone plan provider. And, if it means the difference between showing up or screwing up, who cares if it costs a little money? Your priorities need checking, among other things (like the suggested forum).
The use of the GPS is free, but if it's looking at Google maps those are downloaded over the 3g connection while you are out of Wi-Fi range and will incur a data charge. 3p won't do the first page
Most pay as you go plans charge for the mobile data you use. Google maps and many other sat nav apps for smartphones consume data as you drive along. They continually download map segments as you move from segment to segment. This will cost money on a pay as you go plan.
There are some apps that don't download as you go. They have you download the entire map database over Wi-Fi when you set up the software. These would not cost you data charges. They do consume a lot of memory storage space in your phone. I think CoPilot has a free or trial version that works this way. There may be others as well.
