Don't you know that a tariff on aluminum will only make it so more stuff is made of plastic?

A tariff on aluminum will only do two things:

-Force companies to use plastic instead of aluminum if they are to avoid the tariff.
-Pass the costs of the tariffs off to the consumer. That means we will end up paying more for things made of aluminum.

One thing that the tariffs are NOT doing is making it so that more things are being made in the United States. For example, the iPhone has a lot of components that are readily available in China but not the United States. It would still be cheaper for Apple to pay a tariff than it would be for them to move their manufacturing back to the United States.

Acer, ASUS, and Samsung are not based in the United States and have no reason to manufacture in the United States, but will still have to pay our tariff on aluminum. They would still need to either switch to plastic or hike prices on their aluminum products, even though there's nothing they could do about it.

Didn't you know in 1888 we had so much money due to tarrifs that we actually had a fight over why we had so much money ill tell you hwat

And a turtle cries

Fearing China sure didn't help us much.
Even though we know, China's is far weaker than ours.
Their currency is backed by nothing but empty buildings.
They value that real estate in the "Chinese GHOST CITIES" at ten times their actual worth.
If they tried to call in our debt, we would demand they prove the worth of their currency.
The whole world would collapse.
But we would collapse together.
Tariffs are the only tax mentioned in the Constitution.
There was to be no income tax.
And what Freakila said is true.
We were rolling in dough in the late 1800's.

Of course we need ti be careful how we set tariffs.
Not out of fear of collapse but to maximize the benefits to both nations.
And minimize the cost.

They will not do only that. They will do that, but they will also do one other thing. They are forcing some companies, such as Harley Davidson, to make more things in other countries and fewer things in the US

In other words, you view tariffs as a negative long-term effect on the economy, so we should end trade barriers and have other countries lower their tariffs to ZERO percent on American goods. So we need a negotiation tactic that brings the idea of lowering tariffs harshly into the minds of policymakers of other nations.

This is Trump's long-term game, NOT endless tariffs, and he is showing that China gets hurt (they're down 40%, while we're up 40%) more than we do when we impose any kind of reciprocal tariffs.

'or' - alternative number 3 . Ban those companies AND importing raw materials and restart industry here at home with new companies that employ american workers.

Try building a plane with plastic and no aluminum

Are you a lobbyist for a Russian oligarch aluminum producer?
