Dropped iPhone 4S in snow? Water Damage?
Coming out of my car today, I unknowingly dropped my iPhone in the snow. After walking for maybe five seconds I went back and found it. When I picked it up, there was snow in the charging port but I gently scrapped it out with a tissue and then dried it out with a dry one. It was working fine until about an hour later I tried listening to music with my headphones. I got through about four songs before all of a sudden the music cut out and the charging port started making this weird hissing sound.
I restarted my phone and tried drying it out again. After it came back on, the hissing started for about two seconds and hasn't started again. The only thing that happened was that the music cut out again for a second. I took my headphones out and tried blowing in the headphone jack to see if there was maybe snow in there and it SEEMS okay now… But do you think there could be water damage? Should I bring it to the Apple Store?
It was literally 2cm of snow for maybe 20 seconds. Would that be enough to cause water damage?
Added (1). Ahh the external speakers are no longer working and I'm extremely nervous
Possible but very unlikely, I have dropped my 4 in the snow several times and nothing bad has happened. The snow is frozen so it is unlikely for it to melt and cause water damage. What happens is when you drop the phone in the snow, the holes in the phone are plugged with a little snow, but since that snow is plugging them, it doesn't let for any more snow to get in. As long as you weren't shaking the phone around in the snow then you will be fine. If you are seriously worried then a solution is to submerge your phone in dry rice.
(My dad dropped his 4 in a lake and we dried it off, and put it in the rice which dried it off)
- Iphone water indicators not pink, still possible water damage? Hypothetically, if you got your iphone 4s wet, but the water indicators are not triggered at all, is it still possible the phone has water damage on the inside that apple would find if they took it apart?
- Iphone submerged in water, logic board has water damage? My phone was under water for 10 sec. Atleast and in my wet pocket for about 2 minutes. Led wouldnt turn off and power / lock button didn't work… Put it in rice and two days later i charge it apple logo pops up then writing pops up above the apple logo. Will the guy taking my phone to clean it out and try to fix it need my passcode? And will my contacts, apps, photos, music, internet history still be on my phone? Like when he fixes it turns and on and stuff?
- Iphone dropped in the snow? Won't turn on? So my mom dropped her iPhone 4 in the snow at about noon (it's 5 now) and all day it worked then it slowly lost all sound. And now it will not even turn on. We can't just run to the apple store or Att store cuz there's not one around. Her phone is in rice right know. I'm hoping it will work when she goes to work. ANY OTHER OPIONS TO Help ME?
- I dropped my Iphone in water - no water damage showing on indicator? Here is the situation. I dropped my Iphone 5 in the toilet (I hadn't peed yet so all good there). Immediately switched it off, dried it and put it in a bag of rice. This was at about 6 p.m yesterday. This morning without turning it on I opened up the sim compartment to check the circle for water damage (checked online and apparently this is where to check for water damage). The indicator was white. It is back in the rice but I was wondering - when you think it will be ok to turn back on?
