Dropped iphone in creek for long time and still works?

So today I tripped and dropped my iPhone 5 in the deep section of the creek about 4 to 4 1/2 feet deep and it was submerged for 21 minutes before me and my friend finally found it. I knew I was f***d until i tried turning it on. It worked. So I went home and tested every single thing and everything works. The only thing I had on my iPhone was an Otterbox Commuter case which is neither waterproof or water resistant. It has many holes in it too where water can easily seep in. I backed it up and it is now sitting in a bag of rice just in case. I'm even sending and receiving texts. My question is, How! How is this possible! Any ideas?

The crucial parts must not have gotten so wet as you would expect. You should leave it in a bowl of uncooked rice overnight.
